Iran

Scenario:

Ron Paul is president. The CIA gets intelligence that Iran has nuclear missiles. They are stock piling. And they are going to use them on Israel, and then us. What do we do? Bush Doctrine? What if they are only importing, but still are definitely going to use them on us. Do we use sanctions? Were past the point of debate now. The threat is definite. What is the libertarian response.

The Libertarian response is to intervene if Iran is to strike the United States first, but do not have the right to strike if there is no obvious physical force...   non-aggression axiom

So we do nothing until we are attacked? Even after Iran says there going to bomb Israel and then us. Then they bomb Israel. We do nothing until they launch a nuke at us? And then what? assured mutual destruction?

If they threaten us and promise to use force against us, then maybe we can have congress constitutionally vote whether to go to war or not. Then we go to war and fight to win and come home without occupying Iran.

If we were to take a neutral foreign policy, by not giving money to Arab countries, Israel would have an advantage against Arab countries.  With aid from the United States, Israel is in a more dangerous predicament. With our current military welfare state policy, Israel  actually has a lot more weapons built up against them as opposed to the US having a neutral policy and as a result,  Israel having a net advantage in weapons with this policy.

My positon:

We don't use physical force until the attacks are made, but we use ideological/psychological force. Cut off our ties with Iran, give them back if they give us their bombs.

I pulled this one out of my ass, so criticize away.

Okay, so here's a bit of a better post.

In the Constitution, it states that if somebody makes a statement like "I am going to kill him", and it is not stated in jest, then it should be treated as a crime.

Apply the same principle here. If Iran declares war on us, and we receive intelligence that they intend to attack us, we should take it as a threat and respond accordingly. The moment Iran declares war on us, any force we use on them is retaliatory.

Agreed, but before then there will be no attacks just because they are presumed to have weapons. (like Iraq...)
