Welfare discourages workforce

We probably all know about it... I just felt like sharing this. The 'discouragement' is obvious and demoralizing even (especially) to those getting welfare.

Once out of the workforce for an extended time, like years, it's hard for people to get back into working. They lose skills as well as motivation and discipline. Welfare also sends the wrong message to the person's children that do not see their parent working. Creates generations of welfare dependency.

The guy didnt plan his life out perfectly. Maybe he broke his hip at one point and was only barely able to pay for the surgery. What job is there for him? What is a guy in that position suppose to do?

Did you read it? Santa lost a lot of his pension because he earned money for being Santa, that's why he's planning not to be santa anymore.

He didn't plan for his retirement to be self-funded because it didn't have to be.

Where'd you get the hip from?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was playing devils advocate and arguing for welfare. Im interested in seeing what a libertarians response to someone his age is suppose to do to get by. The Santa gig didnt give him enough. Who else would hire him? The hip surgery thing was just to emphasize life doesnt always turn out exactly as you plan it, and you cant plan it perfectly.

People need to plan and take the initiative and not become dependent of government. The government will never give you a good life, only you can provide that.

I agree. If, from the beginning there was no pension, santa would've saved up. He'd still be working as santa supported by his savings and investments. But because of the fact that there WAS pension, he didn't need save as much and as a consequence now relies on it.

If the government does not tax at such a high rate then it would be much easier for citizens to  save which in turn would result in not such a highly dependent welfare state.

The socialist left wants dependency because the more people have investments and are self sufficient the left wouldn't be needed or elected. It's the leftists self interest to tax and regulate so people and business have trouble providing the goods and services people need/want and make profits and pay checks doing so. Socialists can't allow the free market to work well so they can take power and expand government.

To be honest, this sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.  Cheesy IMO they're just misguided.
