The government (taxpayer) shouldn't be paying for courts and jail and courts shouldn't be used for this. It is abusive.

The debtor loses a day's production. The court has one less hour to deal with other cases. The police loses 3 men a day to catch debtors.

The 'benefit'? Creditors' risks in lending to people are partially nullified, meaning that in the future creditors will be increasingly inclined to lend money to people who may not be able to pay back.
