Thats one thing I dont agree with Murray on. I dont believe in the death penalty for a few reasons. One of the most important ones being; theres no sure fire way to always know for a fact that you have the right guy.

Also, i believe everyone deserves a chance to change. And I believe killing a killer makes you a killer. Isnt that the libertarian philosophy? All human action is individual. Whether you take money at the point of a gun or under the guise of serving, youre still taking money.

I doubt killers or child molestors can change and no one should be a victim of giving someone like that a chance. That leaves life in prison or the death penalty as two options.

There is no definitie libertarian position on whether or not the state should use force against people who have used force. I don't find capital punishment to be a "libertarian" issue.

I do, however, think capital punishment is fine as long as there is clear evidence that the person has murdered someone.

I have a simple answer to this. In a libertarian society you wouldn't need to give the state power over life and death in criminal proceedings because the populace would be armed and any would-be murderer would be gun downed by his/her victim long before the courts heard about it.

Thats anarchy. Which I dont associate with.

Not to mention Id rather 10 murders be declared innocent that one innocent man be killed for crimes he didnt commit. Especially if there wasnt even a trial involved.

Life in prison is 100 times better than the death penalty. Plus, can anyone really know the number of people who 'found god' while in prison? Who found a sense of morality and peace? On the off chance that these horrid people can change their life around while in rehab, I'd rather they live long enough to see a natural death.

Not to mention I believe the purpose of justice shouldnt be punishment, but change. Changing your life around.

It's not really that im against capital punishment in a sense...but wouldn't life in prison be a bigger punishment than getting killed? Dont ya'll think these criminals in a sense are getting off easy?

If it were me, i'd rather be dead that spend life in prison being tortured and facing death from many other inmates.

Then again in America we have it easy. I remember being a lifeguard and I work with international people...there was this one guy (cant remember wheres hes from but its in europe) where if you get a DUI you get sentenced to death after your first offense. Crazy huh? Imagine what they do to you if you kill someone....

A libertarian position can be that the killer be turned over to the victims, their family or advocate, to do what they want with the criminal. Along with any assets they may have.

However, it's others that may also be at risk from the killer.

If you're a true Libertarian, you know that the government sucks, and they often make mistakes, including locking up the wrong person. Just because they convince 12 people that it is so, it isn't necessarily so. The classic book 12 Angry Men demonstrates this.

I don't believe in capital punishment. Innocent people should never be killed by the government. That is not freedom; that is communism.
