Don't be too hasty in mocking all conspiracy theories.

Any type of planning done in secret is by definition a conspiracy. So, conspiracies exist, of course.

You've asked us not to be too hasty, so I will simply ask why you have named this thread "Prison planet". If, as I suspect, you are alluding to Alex Jones and his work, then I may get a bit hasty in writing off such theories.

When this man says that HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, located in Alaska) caused the Asian tsunami by firing a laser into the ocean, I think I can be forgiven for being hasty. As a great scientist once said: "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence".

I never act hastily to dismiss theories or claims; I simply don't accept them as fact until they are proven. I like to think of myself as someone that fairly considers all claims made by other people.

Most of the theories that I've seen regarding HAARP can be thrown out as nonsense.  Physics doesn't support half of what they claim and the other half can be ruled out due to technological limitations.

Could HAARP produce negative but unintended atmospheric effects?

I used your favourite conspiracy loon to deliberately get attention to this thread. Sorry about that  Grin

HAARP could produce negative and unintended atmospheric effects to a localized area, say within a 12 mile (19km) radius of the HAARP site.

The theories that have HAARP bouncing radio waves off of the atmosphere are thin at best and the ones that have HAARP curving radio waves around the Earth are just plain dumb.

IF HAARP could do any of what conspiracy theorists actually claim, considering electromagnetic radiation (radio waves)  are most intense nearest the source, the area around HAARP would be a tropical paradise amongst the cold frigid tundra of Alaska.

Honestly. All HAARP does is transmit sounds on HF/Shortwave and Extremely Low Frequency bands with very high power. If you have a shortwave receiver you can hear it. There is nothing mysterious about it.

Here's a good article debunking the HAARP conspiracies: http://www.skeptic.com/eskeptic/10-03-03/#feature

This prison planet you speak of. Is this Obama's inception of Guantanamo's replacement? A Newt Gingrich type of plan to repair the overcrowded jail system created by statist policy?
