According to L. Gordon Crovitz, the average person commits around three felonies a day. I just read an article detailing how this student is facing a felony charge for having a pocketknife in his car. He clearly had no malicious intentions, but he's going to face a felony charge regardless.

Why? Voter ID addresses the potential problem of voter impersonation at the polls that is virtually non-existant in the United States. North Caroline and Pennsylvania, for example, both passed Voter ID laws but there are no documented cases of voter impersonation at the polls ever happening in either state.

If there isn't a problem then why have a law to address a  non-existant problem that places a burden on US citizens to exercise their Right to Vote?

There need to be a reason for a law but when it comes to voter ID laws there isn't a reason for them save one. Studies have shown that 25% of Blacks and 18% of Hispanics don't have a valid photo ID and overwhelmingly they vote for Democrats. Republicans don't want minorities that vote for Democrats voting so they pass laws that will prevent a significant percentage of them from voting.

The problem is racial minorities vote for Democrats and not voter impersonation fraud at the polls which is why Republicans pass the voter ID laws.

BTW No one actually agrues with requiring an ID card to vote so long as the person can walk into the government office and obtain one without having to "prove" anything except that they are a person and live in the state. Age and citizenship for eligibility to vote is a voter registration issue and not a voter impersonation issue.

BTW Why should ex-felons be prevented from voting? That has never made any sense to me. They served their time and there is no logical reason to deny them their Right to Vote.
