Ludicrous Government Regulation Hurts Teens

Well, It finally happened. We all knew it would - sooner or later.  In Gardendale, Alabama, Teens wishing to trim lawns for a little extra cash must now obtain a BUSINESS LICENSE!!!

How about little sister's Lemonade Table?  Will she need a Business License as well? Will the lemonade need to undergo FDA testing? Good Grief!

In a way, this is a good thing.  It's a powerful, real-life lesson to these youngsters about the perils of an over-reaching Government and why over-regulation harms trade.  These kids are Libertarians-in-training!

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Teens in Gardendale are in for a rude awakening this summer when it comes to cutting grass. According to the city's ordinance, you must have a business license.
Teenagers have been threatened by officials and other lawn services to show their city issued license before cutting a person's lawn for extra summer cash.

Cutting grass is often one of the first jobs many have in the summer. But a business license in Gardendale costs $110. And for a job, just for a couple of months, that can be a bit extreme...

The libertarian always misses seeing the forest for the trees. This is about preventing foreigners from doing the jobs that Americans don't want to do.

or

Forcing Americans to do those jobs. Same thing. If you think it through it's easy to see that it's another method of big business. I wonder if anybody can think it through?

A hint: It's about denying entitlements.

That's of course nonsense, this prevents americans from doing jobs they want to do in favor of entrenched interests who also tend to hire immigrants legal and otherwise because they work cheaper than Americans.

There have been cases of lemonade stands getting shut down because they don't have a permit and even those little lending library stands that are about the size of a large mailbox.

For the slow learners like you: Stop illegal immigrants from cutting grass so entitlements can be denied to Americans who continue to refuse to do it.

So, because I'm obviously a slow learner, please explain or rephrase that last post.  Are you saying that this law is meant to stop illegal immigrants from cutting grass?  Are you saying that this law is meant to allow illegal immigrants to cut grass?  What entitlement is associated with this law requiring teenagers to register as a business in order to mow a neighbors lawn?

It seems to me, that what it will do is ensure to mow a loan legally you need a business license, which I'm sure most landscaping businesses already have.   Those businesses are notorious for hiring immigrants, often illegals.

And you can't get a business license if you're an illegal. It's not businesses, it's individuals. You're learning!

So we agree that laws requiring a business license to mow the lawn is stupid and intended to harm some workers?  But we disagree on which workers it arms the most?

Just another shallow libertarian comment, without thought. Not one worth arguing though, there are too many more that are even more stupid.

All state-granted licenses include a prohibition of voluntary trade.

Replace them with voluntary certification from private companies.
