In the US it's a fact that people are prohibited by cost from going to their doctor for an annual checkup.
My local Dr. charges around $350 for a checkup with basic blood work.

If you'd rather spend the money on games and bandwidth and cool phone service and other nice things you want instead, go ahead. Your choices are not automatically my problems.

My doctor charges $0 for a checkup but I'm limited to one a year. I think it's worth about $100 to get one for some special cuase such as needing one for a job that would require a healthy person. If you want to discuss the difference then I can get you the details.

You are ignorant even of the details of the Canadian National Health Service that you have been lauding on this forum? You don't even know what it entails, you just know it's great?

Who is paying your Doctor for your annual checkup if you aren't? Is it charity? No? People are being forced to give their hard earned money to pay to see if you are still healthy? Who cares if you stay healthy or not? I don't. Keep your hands off my wallet.

I just know it doesn't cost me anything for a checkup. Who do you think it costs? Does it cost the government? Where does government get all that money to provide checkups to freeloaders like me?

Oh, taxes! And who pays those taxes? Poor people and middle class people or wealthy people.

An Old communist slogan: Make the rich pay!
And that jeff, is why income tax was invented by god and baby jesus!

Allahu Akbar!

I think burnsred dodge a bullet. He says he gets checkups every 6 months but that wouldn't be true. He gets checkups for B.P. and that wouldn't be a thorough checkup. He came very close to falling victim to the US health care system. We know the US medical experience is bad for a reason!

He's one of many, but many more who aren't so lucky. Let's see if he's willing to lie to protect the system?

Productive people. I know that's who pays.

Edit: You feel comfortable telling the government to rob productive people on your behalf?

I've never seen a person so willing to show his ignorance on a public forum.  The blood pressure checkups are no less thorough than the regular checkups.  It was BP checkup that caught the anemia because they drew blood.  Thanks to the free market system, I didn't have to wait months to see a specialist and then more months for scans.  God only knows how long I would have waited for the surgery if I were in the Canadian system.

The Nurse takes my BP. She weighs me too...

What planet are you from?

That's nice of her.

By BP checkup, I mean the checkup I get for my BP medication.  They check my blood thoroughly to make sure there are no side effects.  I guess in Canada, the government tells you what to take and if there're side effects, tough luck.  At least you didn't die on a waiting list . . .
