What Tax Collection Looks Like in America

It's the eviction scene from House of Sand and Fog, one of Kingsley's best in my opinion.  Notice that the American LEO isn't a jackbooted thug, but a rather shamefaced tool of the taxman.  It's a movie so several things are different from real life.

In real life, neither the tax men, nor the police officers are likely to be handsome and well-dressed.  County officials are much more likely to wear stained JC Penney short-sleeved shirts stretched over pot bellies and police uniforms are more often ill fitting and uncomfortable looking.

But in real life, the tactic of tax collection is the same:  Government officials are there to take a citizens' property with a gunman to make sure that citizens don't dare to defend it.  Not sure what use that fictional county would have put that lady's home to, but clearly there, as in real life, government officials always think they know better how do make use of wealth than do those who create it.

How are police different from my characterization?

What in that scene is fantasy that never happens?

The IRS seizes property somewhere every day.  You were unaware of this?

Picking out the problems and exposing them to the light of day is useful, but eventually thinking of remedies to fix the problems has to be considered.

I call it 'socially responsible capitalism' but you people can refer to it as something else. It will be the same thing under a different lable.

But that has nothing much to do with what motivates libertarians does it. The skychief makes it simple for us. It's all about complaining and coming up with ideas that are impossible to ever work. He's useful idiot at least.

Why bother? I'm doing it a bit every day. Burnsred, it's people of your political persuasion that are the worst enemy of reform. I don't hear anything coming from you that is any different then the extreme right.

Maybe your motivation for coming here and looking at libertariansim is just showing that the right isn't extreme enough for you.

There's nothing libertarian about any of you if all you do is complain and either offer nothing to change your governement, or impossible solutions. As you know, it's mostly just complaining.

If you gave us a really, really good explanation, it might gain you the beginnings of credibility. Maybe.

No, because it is obviously a dramatization of property seizure.  It is designed to trigger an emotional response to a very tragic situation.  I sure worked with me.

One cannot help but think of the lives/households that are destroyed by property seizures of the IRS.

Ever wonder what tyranny really looks like?   Look no further than the IRS.
