Yet another one with 5 dead so far. And no doubt that Americans will resist any change because the 2nd. amendment socalled rights are worth more than the slaughter of their children with guns.

Developing story but not likely to threaten the record.

Looks like they kept this particular NRA whacko out of the school! Only 4 dead bodies so far.

I wonder if he's another convicted felon that the government forgot to put on the no-gun list?  Plus we must find out who forgot to make that school a gun-free zone!

Almost makes you consider adopting Canada's policy of tossing nutburgers in the slammer before they commit violent acts.

This is along the lines of what Bicky's saying.

Is there a threshold, however absurd, where safety matters more than rights?

If there is then Don is right. If there is ever that point, and action against an innocent person is ever justified, then at that point it's just a matter of opinion where the threshold lies. How many potential bodies is too many? One? One million? If there's a number I certainly hope it's 1.

I think there's not a number. I think rights are absolute.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

He was awaiting trial for various crimes, including gun crimes.

You must be referring to Canada being proactive with people who have mental health problems. I commended that policy and offered to discuss it with you. Would you like to revisit it?

The shooter (Kevin Janson Neal) was being prosecuted for a felony, but was not (yet) convicted.

D.A. Gregg Cohen told The Sacramento Bee that “Neal was currently being prosecuted by his office for assault with a deadly weapon and a stabbing that had occurred earlier this year.” ....“Neal was out of jail on $300,000 bail and had been since shortly after the January incident.”

The 5th Amendment of our Constitution prohibits imprisonment when no crime has been committed.

(habeas corpus)

He was being dishonest about Canada jailing people before they commit a crime. It was all about being proactive with mentally ill people. You won't be interested because it doesn't suit your ignorant dogma.

Yes, Canada commits people to Mental Health Institutions when they have not committed any crime. That's what you mean by "proactive".
