A libertarian president could adopt the Obama style of one-man governance and enact all of his programs through executive orders.  But he would have to be ready to ignore the courts when they ruled that he can't over-ride congress that way.  Our highly politicized justices did not do that with Obama or they did it way to late, but they would be quick to smack down a libertarian.

It would be up to the libertarian president to not allow himself to be smacked down.
What nonsense. A libertarian with no more respect for the law than Obama? Such a person would not be a libertarian.

Thank you everyone who has commented. You've given me quite a bit to think about. If anyone else has more to add, feel free to comment, the assignment is still ongoing for me.

Do we have enough libertarians in congress to stop the other two sides from shutting everything the P tries?

I would guess, No. I think when that time comes, of when a Libertarian wins, Congress is still going to be 100% Republican/Democratic. So the Libt. President is just going to have to deal with a congress that is mostly against them, and push towards a Libertarian agenda without being too "radical."

Both factions of the TwoParties would suddenly discover the Constitutional powers of Congress and the very real limits on the power of the President.

There are lots of things a President could do- Just fire everybody who works at the Dept. of Education for instance, and don't hire anybody to replace them. This would cause what the talking heads call a "Constitutional crises" and talk of impeachment would erupt...
I think such an action would have good effect by forcing a real discussion regarding the Constitutionality of having a Dept. of Education in the first place.

You're very correct. Too many libertarians focus too much on the presidency. It's congressional state and local reps that we need to focus our energy on.

Unfortunately we also have to waste a lot of time trying to convince people that libertarian does not mean/anarchist/atheist/libertine.

How about a new name? 'American Liberals'. Different from all other current liberals because we are actually liberal rather than authoritarian collectivists.

Well, I don't see that many are ready to tip into the anarchist/atheist/libertine party. They seem more interested in Bernie and Uncle Joe Biden.

I think you're right on with that. You've never acknowledged that before.

There's a reason for kneejerk reactions and libertarians are going to have to deal with the accusations. I don't see any indication of atheism being among them. Is it?

"Feel good socialism" is pretty common among young people, and we have what seems to be an especially poorly educated and heavily indoctrinated group of young people these days... although part of it is also surely a reaction to the crony capitalism they see around them, which they have been falsely taught to believe is a result of economic liberty.

"These days" are days of political unrest that has turned the people anti-establishment and to accepting Trump. You do understand how ridiculous that choice was?

The "poorly educated" comment speaks directly to my point. Poorly educated, I maintain, in that they haven't been educated to completely embrace capitalism and also completely reject socialism. Or more accurately, anything that can be called socialism or even suggested to be communism.

As they grow older, maybe they will receive the education which I refer to and which I say all Americans eventually receive. Most absorb it and accept it, some don't.

Or on the other hand, it could be that we are seeing a time when most will begin to reject it.

I think I might as well be talking to the wall because I haven't convinced you that I'm a capitalist yet. It's my cross to bear!

Hi guys, this is my first post. I'm doing a project for school.

The election is over, a Libertarian President has won. Now what?
What are the steps that are immediately needed to take by this Libt. President? What are the changes that are wanted to be made instantly or gradually? Would anything get done? How can he/she get congress to pass any proposed bill? What power does the President really have to get anything a Libertarian wants done? What are some certain scenarios or obstacles this President would run into?
Basically, I'm looking to simulate the first 4 years of a Libertarian presidency and see what would happen.

Remember, this isn't how can the Libertarian win the election, we're past that. It's what are they going to do once they're in the oval office.

The focus of a true libertarian President in their first term would be to streamline and repeal legislation across the board and reduce the size of government in people and spending

Greg Gutfeld - I became a conservative by being around liberals and I became a libertarian by being around conservatives

Matt Stone - I hate conservatives, but I really f'ing hate liberals
