Presidents in the U.S. have no power to make or alter laws. They are required to follow the laws and faithfully execute them.

Any president "can" issue orders that purportedly change the law, or issue orders to his employees the tell them to not follow the law, but such actions are outside the law and have no legal force.

There are laws against murder, but anyone "can" murder someone.

The real truth is that all branches of government have changed the laws to make the law mean something different. There's no better example of that than the interpretation of your 2nd. amendment. Now the law puts no limits on the artillery you can carry around on the streets. And if it hasn't reached that point in some states yet, the goal is to make it there too.

Another example in the works is preventing abortions completely. Your 'law' will be interreted to demand that happens.

What 'law' when the nation's supreme court is corrupt and decides based on political motive. "religious' motive!

I hand with you boss because you're smart enough to understand and absorb the truth. And it's slowly sticking in your craw and your head.

Oppo is probably smart enough too and he's starting to be moved a bit. The others are completely hopeless.

Think about what power means, then say that again.

In the comic book sense, I could have the power of telekinesis. A specific power. This is actually the best meaning. Can I, or can I not, lift objects with my mind? It's a very simple question. Very binary. Very yes or no. (Hint: You still have telekinesis even if there's some law that says you can't use it.)

In the non-fantastical sense, the meaning of power is very much the same. Do I have the power to lift an object with my hand? Yes, or no.

If the President hands down an executive order, will what he wants happen? Yes, or no. It's really that simple.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

Any idiot punk has the power to murder.

How heavy is the object?

Then I don't think you actually have a disagreement with Skychief.

His contention was that the president CAN do things with the stroke of a pen, not that the power to do those things is spelled out in some law.

Right, and anyone CAN murder.

That's not an exact analogy, since what the president must do is spelled out in the law, and it's understood that the president can't do anything unless it has been specifically authorized by Congress or the Constitution.

I agree. The law should be followed as it is, not how presidents think it should be.
