I didn't ask you all to debate whether or not child porn should be legal. I asked what the Libertarian Party did publicly in response to the controversy. I know they made a statement, but I can't find it.

I want to know whether the Party disavowed it and said child porn should be illegal. It's also my understanding someone within the LNC resigned as a result of this conflict.

Does anyone know the full story? That's what I'm asking.

I did not find the press release. I did find a memo from the same person who released it (Shane Cory) about the issue.

Here's a relevant excerpt.

Quote:
Forgive me for being so upset and so “American” about this, but I believe that our government does serve a purpose and at its core it is to protect the rights of the individual. That includes those who cannot help themselves.

I find it deeply troubling that Mary and others would dance around this issue with theoretical nonsense. This goes far beyond what will happen in Denver and her being a current presidential candidate. Significant, long-term harm may come to our party because of the anarchistic views of someone the media will portray as a party leader.

I respectfully refuse to accept that thanks.

I'm decent because I don't believe I have the completely unbridled right to free speech. I don't believe I have rights at all. If I did, I would just act like you and call people stupid when they ask a question.

I was taught not to do that. I was taught that I don't have the right to do that.

If you believe you have rights I'll respect them. Discover whatever rights you like; I don't give a shit what you do. I only give a shit what I do.

Even though you are a practicing Christian, you have no right to child porn.

Real rights are negative. Try again.

People like you have already discovered the right not to be offended, which I respect as much as I can within the bounds of not lying, which is another right: You have the right not to be lied to.

You said that whatever I believed was a right was a Right, now you say you were lying and offer an incoherent rationalization of why you said something that wasn't true. Tsk, tsk.

You have to say you believe you have a right to be uninterfered with as you take my stuff. That's a negative right.

It's a right you can have if you understand what a right is.

You don't, though. You come up with positive rights because you don't understand your own philosophy.
