Government involvement is necessary in marriage for several different reasons. If you explore those reasons you won't be able to advise that government should not be involved.

Government involvement in marriage is necessary. Here are two reasons to start with:

Record keeping.

Preventing bigamy.

It might be harmful for 'some' reasons? It's not going to end and there's no reason to end it that is important enough to negate the necessities.

Libertarians should spend more time on considering what is posssible to change and leave the things they can't change alone.

I just don't know what the hell they 'can' change? Maybe you do?

Only if you think it's necessary to keep people from marrying their sisters. Nobody does that anymore do they?

These days, if you and your sister want to live together, no one will stop you. It was probably for the most part always that way.
