But there is nothing to prevent it.  For example, if the federal government raises the age to 21, what prevents a state from raising it to 25 or 30?

There will be lawsuits based on the State Constitutions, and they will prevail.

Show me one scintilla of evidence for that.

That people were fighting a civil war over slavery in Kansas and Missouri?

No, you mean that there is no evidence that Lincoln understood that allowing the Union to dissolve would preserve slavery in America and lead to future wars of slavers against free people. You presume Lincoln was stupid and didn't listen to what anybody in the country was saying.

Lincoln can't know something that's not true; he can only think something that's not true.

The union was preserved and there is still slavery in some parts of the world today, therefore preserving the union did not eliminate slavery.

While you have a qualifier in America, why should it matter whether it's on this continent or not? If you accept the South's right to secede, it was another country.
Yes yes, but all that we've been talking about is slavery in America.

The slave states "right to secede" was denied and the rebellion was put down. Then slavery in America was ended.

Slavery is evil wherever and whenever it exists (human chattel slavery that is, since that's what we are talking about.)

The denial of rights that occur in places like N. Korea amount to slavery. You can lobby and advocate for invading N. Korea and freeing the slaves there if you want to, but there isn't any Constitutional authority for our government to make war on N. Korea for that reason.

If Kalifornia rebels, there is authority to call out the militias and raise armies to put down the rebellion, and it should be done if Kalifornia leaves the Union in order to enslave it's people under Communism.

LoL!

Your only evidence that Lincoln believed that keeping slaves in Union states was the only way to win the war in order to eventually end slavery is that other people were saying that?

Other people were also saying that it didn't matter whether slaves were freed or not, the only important thing was preserving the Union.

Oh, wait.  That was Lincoln saying that, not "other people."

Believe what you want about Lincoln, he did what he thought was best, and expedient, and legal to win the War to End Slavery in America, and managed to accomplish both purposes.
Winning the war restored the Union and ended slavery in America.

It is you who are "believing" about Lincoln based on historical fiction.  What I "know" about Lincoln is based on facts.

They didn't force the message home near enough. The north should have claimed the spoils of war by making the point to the women of the south the way victors usually do. Lincoln didn't have it in him apparently and now the US continues to this day by making the south understand what losing meant.

Lincoln was assassinated dolt. Andrew Johnson did a very bad job when he took over.

Rights can't be denied. They can only be violated.

As I've pointed out before, the North could have invaded the South and ended slavery, and then not conquered the South. When they expressed their desire to secede, according to law, they became another country.

It's a common tactic for conquerors and bullies: Up the morality ante and then deliver a "justified" smackdown, after which you take stuff. Then write the history so the people you beat were the bad guys.

No one is saying slavery wasn't wrong, but it wasn't a big deal before the civil war and it's not a big deal after the civil war, either. There is slavery today.

Legitimate states don't have "rights" they have limited granted powers and assigned duties and obligations to the people who live in them.
