I would actually say yes because they are not selling a product. Facebook is free to use.

Maybe after all this controversy, Facebook will post a clear notice letting everyone know what they feel they have a right to do with any information you disclose on their site.

Probably not, and I don't think the government should force them to.

Maybe Facebook will even make a public disclosure of what they have already done with the information they have collected, a complete disclosure. Probably not.

In that case, the regulation or tax is unjust in the first place and they should claim to be neutral when they're not in order to disobey an unjust law.

They can define hate speech any way they want. That's the point of hate speech. Hard Leftism is the new neutrality.

Well put.

So Zuckerberg is testifying because they sold people's information to advertisers -- something we've known Facebook has been doing for years?

Essentially, yes.  Which is why it's so absurd.

Congress just want reaons so they can impose more regulations.

No, the allegation (I think) is that he has violated the intent of all the campaign finance laws ever enacted, that he is using his wealth and power to influence the outcome of elections, and doing it without complying with the campaign finance disclosure laws (or something like that).

Unfortunately, campaign finance laws have been written to protect people like Mark, so he probably can't be charged like a regular business would be.

It isn't about having relevant ads popping up on your homepage or wherever, its about the exercise of wealth to influence elections behind the scenes. An old story.

Edit: Mr. Zukerburg has enough money to convince lots of politicians to support him. Let's see what happens! Smiley
