If everyone had a farm big enough to meet their basic needs, you would no longer see objections to the free market because workers wouldn't be so vulnerable to losing their jobs or being exploited.

If they have no other means of supporting themselves, they have to do whatever the employer asks. If they have a plot of land large enough to feed themselves, and a well, they can say no and still live.
Ha ha. If everybody had a subsistence plot, lot's of people would starve and some people would buy up or simply claim the poorly utilized land. Hey, they could make the poor farmers into serfs and we could have feudalism again! No exploitation there!

What free economies provably do is create economic growth and more opportunities.

There are no guarantees to individuals that can be honored under any system of political economy. If someone creates horseless carriages, lots of farriers are going to be looking for other work.

Of course feudalism did last for a very long time, and the serfs were not just guaranteed to have work, they were compelled to work, pretty much all the time, and their children often starved anyway... They were exploited and had no opportunity to find other means of supporting themselves. But they didn't need other means. They had plots of land to work that were big enough to support themselves. Jeff, we have to stop paying people not to work, then maybe they'd be willing to pick peaches.  No farm or company should employ illegal immigrants.  If peaches have to be more expensive so as to get people to pick them, then so be it.

Your pronouncement to the contrary, if an American peach grower raises his prices much at all, imported peaches will undercut the minimum price he can charge and he will be bankrupted as a peach grower.

If you give willing Mexicans visas to pick peaches, they will come and do it, and the American peach farmer can stay in business.

The reason the Mexicans will come is that they can make more money picking American peaches.

Guest worker visas are fine, it means they're here legally.
