Beware of the commie hiding under all your beds. There's reason to fear and that's going to cause an inrush of big money to stop any momentum.

Cartoons are great because they appeal to the most simplminded. Especially cartoons like the airplance and Michael Moore.

Brilliant!

Do the cartoons further the libertarian cause?

There's potential on this forum in ahhell, my boss, and Oppo. All of them are getting close to understanding how the very wealthy have snookered them.

And even the Chief is being pushed to work overtime to ease his doubting mind.

Continue!

Socialist or not, the Scandinavian countries are trying to get closer to paradise. All they've gained so far is being the happiest countries in the world.

What's that all about?

Governments will always devise ways to deprive an honest man of his money or property, and claim that it's legal.

Dink is offended by the attacks on socialism, I'm not surprised.

Ruby, I've seen the error of my manly ways... I will from now on call Dong by his actual, real, chosen name, Dong...

In light of your recently exposed sexism, I suggest you do the same...

You might want to consider that most often I think of Dong as "my dick"...

Probably you could call him dick without exposing more of your sexism.

Do what you want.

This is a great little video to begin this topic. It's Americans talking about the flaws of Denmark's system. And it starts out by criticizing Bernie Sanders as wanting to turn the US into another Denmark.

But the strange thing about the video as it comes to an end is:

Well, that's for you Americans to find out. A hint: Maybe they didn't make their point very well? What was their point?

I think this forum is ready for this discussion now. This discussion could actually give libertarianism much much needed direction. Be that further away from Denmark's model or closer to.

Enjoy!

The socialism described in the video is what is often described as a "mixed economy" which isn't far removed from what the US has today.

French economist Frederic Bastiat described pure socialism in the early 1800's when he said:

"Socialism the the fictitious entity wherein everyone lives at the expense of someone else."

Mare and I visited several cities in Norway in May.  But, although everyone seemed well-dressed and happy and friendly, I still have questions about the wonders of socialism.

We heard it said several times by different people that Norway is rich, and that if it's oil income were distributed to all it's citizens that they would all be millionaires. But, Norway apparently has an income tax of 38%, a sales tax (VAT) of 25%, and a social security tax of 8.2%.

Our tour guide in Oslo, an older woman, told us that the retirement age which was once 62 is now 67 for maximum benefits, and is expected to go up to age 70. She said that this is because Norway has a labor shortage and it is necessary to keep people in the labor force longer.

This really doesn't compute for me, and I wonder why socialists who used to talk about a Worker's Paradise and the supposedly strong labor unions in Norway tolerate this?

But tolerate it they do Tom. And it's not new to hear from you that they do with smiles on their faces.

It's not socialism by definition Tom, it's socially responsible capitalism.

What does money buy in America? Does it buy anything that they can't buy in Denmark?

The percentage of tax I pay would make no difference at all to me if I was getting full value from the government for my money.

All those happy people might be saying just that.

(or libertarians might claim that they're agents of the government placed on the streets that tourists are allowed to walk on, in order to make it look good?)

Libertarians can't change because Americans can't change. Their heads are full of the notion that the rest of the world is just a bunch  of communists trying to eat their toes if they step too close to their beds.

I'm a Canadian and the last I looked, I still have all my toes!

If Norway has a labor shortage, why don't they import more people?

Who would want to live there?

Or were you saying they should import slaves?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying, Jeff.
