Voter ID also prevents dead people from voting.  Dead people voting is never a good idea.
Isn't the main idea to keep non-citizens from voting?

Yes, that's the main reason for it - Voter ID is a counter-measure against voter fraud.

Voting by a non-citizen under 18 U.S.C. §611 is a strict liability offense. It is a felony and punishable by fines and/or prison.

The real libertarian would first of all be concerned that some people would be disenfranchised by requiring voter registration.

Then after that stumbling block was eliminated the libertarian would be right in demanding that all voters be registered and identified.

The pseudo-libertarian would act in a biased kneejerk way that would (will) ensure that more people that he/she favours would be allowed to vote.

Bush/Gore established 18 years ago that the US system is corrupt. Why not try to make it more corrupt pseudo-libertarians!

It's your country!

But voter fraud in the real world is virtually nonexistent.

In most states, the only people actually committing voter fraud are Republicans.

It's like passing a law against Gay Whales lying on the Sidewalk.  Why bother spending time on a problem that doesn't exist?  Unless it's reinforced by some other stereotype, like the image of brown people voting 51% to take control of your city government.

You're onto the Chief. His concerns aren't legitimate. A real libertarian's would be.

I personally know two (unrelated) people who vote for their deceased spouse.  So I know this statement is not true.

Be careful what you believe when it's the Chief telling the story JW.

He's well known for making up little stories like this one. You should have heard the one he told about his strata council giving themselves parking spots and not giving him one!  Grin

The Chief has lots of bad experiences like that. This time he's got two people openly admitting to the crime of voter fraud.

Now you know of two 'real' incidents in just 'one' day! Blahahahahahahahaha!  Embarrassed

Non-citizens, convicted felons, people under the age of 18, dead people... All of those are prohibited from voting by law, and virtually all libertarians agree it's a good idea.

Yes, most of the people in charge at voting places take the law seriously.

Both sides engage in voter fraud, so no side should complain about cracking down on it by requiring IDs.
