They weren't the major party by a longshot, but telling people they were helped them win.

Yes, I remember there's something about Bolshevik meaning majority, and Menshevik meaning minority, or vice versa.

Just by the context of my use of 'Bolshevik' you should have been alerted that it means majority.

It's certainly easy enough to confirm.

oh dear.

Socialist (democrat) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was elected to Congress on Tuesday.

Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

She will represent New York's 14th Congressional district, which covers parts of Queens and the Bronx.

I could see something like this happening in the People's Republik of Kalifornia - but N.Y.???    Wow!   Shocked

Don't worry about her, worry about the Senate and the President and the Supreme Court.

I admit she's sometimes cute, but she is an ignorant dunderhead when it comes to understanding reality, and her opinions and vote mean nothing, fortunately, so far...

Let's see how Starfleet deals with these socialist organisms:

I don't think the Democratic Socialist surge was much in evidence after the votes were counted...

Here's some evidence of blatant cheating (I know the republicans do it too whenever they can) that undoubtedly had a real effect on the outcome of the election-

The court told them to fix things before the 2020 election.

A sign of things to come.  Ben Hunt of the Epsilon Theory blog puts it perfectly: if Trump didn't exist, it would be someone just as ridiculous, whether on the left or right.  It's a structural problem with American politics (a 'widening gyre' that swings violently from one extreme to the other.)

Check out his recent Things Fall Apart series -- a great read too.

Our government was politicized by a divide between people who dreamed big and saw inherent powers and implied powers in the Constitution and those who wanted to construe the law more narrowly.

The divide remains, but the political battle has become more and more serious as more and more power has been gradually usurped.

The dream of the Founders was to create a government so limited that no one would ever think of entering government service in order to gain power and wealth.

At the outset, being a postmaster or tariff collector at a busy seaport were the only government jobs that could make you wealthy.

As it became more powerful, the government created many more ways for power to gain wealth for many more cronies, and thus made the power worth fighting for.

That's what partisanship is, a political war for power and wealth.

Ordinary folk don't often swing wildly in their basic ideas about life and living and right and wrong.
Often young radical idiots will realize the evil that has been done using the radical ideas they think are new and world saving and become somewhat conservative about trusting to government to change things for the better, or expecting anarchy to produce good results.

Not always.

I couldn't decide where to post this, but since it has many things to say about the importance of reality, and plenty of philosophical ideas that I think bear on the struggle between liberty and tyranny, I'll post it here-

https://www.artrenewal.org/Article/Title/the-philosophy-of-arc

It's long and thought provoking. For someone of average intellect like me, it will take some re-reading and pondering...

And when Alexander Hamilton put the power of money in government (in a firmer and more organized way than a central-bank-free country,) the pigs really fight for their spots!

His experiment was killed, but his philosophical heirs carried on the brave struggle, and with the help of British elites desperate to keep their global bubble afloat, plus plain, normal ignorance about money by the public, the System achieved its triumph in 1913 with the founding of the Federal Reserve.  Nothing short of a Glorious Revolution on American shores!

But seriously, Ben Hunt's point is that, at this point, as opposed to most of the last century, there are no electoral incentives for politicians of either side to be moderate and work with the other side.  And this is a self-reinforcing trend.  Paul Ryan was smart to get out.
