Why would anyone still support socialism?

Great question Land of Freedom!

In truth hardly anybody supports socialism anymore. Some of us on this forum have come to the perfectly sane agreement that all capitalist countries are a blend of capitalism with socialist policies combined. Ahhell was particularly lucent on stating it correctly.

Now as to Venequela specifically, that's just the beginning of a discussion. We would have to look at all the reasons why Venezuela's socialism has 'practically' failed.

One that is easier to understand and easier for me to explain would be Cuba's.

I hope you are intending to take part on this forum more now. It's encouraging when we are able to get two prospective new members in one day!

They will blame Trump's sanctions for the runaway inflation and people eating their pets to survive.

They will say that Socialism can work if it's done correctly.   Roll Eyes

These are highly delusional people.

Suggesting that people are eating their pets chief, is just not very acceptable rhetoric, for making your point.

It's quite disgusting and un-American and I really wish you would stop it and lift yourself up by your jackboot straps!

It's not rhetoric. It has happened many times in Venezuela.

Get your facts straight before criticizing my comment.

This quote by Walter Williams applies to you, Dink:

If you have 3 boxcars full of food and distribute it to 6 gourps of people, how much food will each group of people be allowed to eat?

In a purely socially responsible capitalist country, each group will be fed 1/2 a boxcar full of food.

In Cuba, there would be more than 3 boxcars of food and it would be healthy vegetablesgrown locally, with small amounts of beer.

In a greedy capitalist system, the group with the most money will get all the food, eat half a boxcar full, and sell the rest to some fat crook who will cut it with baking soda and peddle it on the street.

Every ideology has its own piper who must be paid, or, well...

Venezuela.

For socialism, that piper is a big one: Population control.

You can force the farmers to farm, you can force the workers to work, but you can't stop the welfare class from breeding everyone into oblivion until the country literally runs out of food.

Well, you actually can.

China did, and it's the only socialist country that hasn't collapsed.

Socialists think their philosophy is all ponies and sharing.

But the piper they have to pay is a bigger deal to most people than the one they're paying for their ideology.

No one but the Chinese is okay with messing in peoples' loins. That means no one but the Chinese can have workable socialism.

Ever.

The sad thing is that America has this same problem, and America's destiny is to die the same way. We refuse to let babies starve and we refuse to put the government between irresponsible people and mating, even if they have twelve babies already.

You can see the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) inflating faster than the rest of the food before your eyes. We'll be on food rationing before the next 40 years is gone. The welfare class won't, though.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

I agree with you that US sanctions aren't the main problem, but I think you'll agree that sanctions, whether on Venezuela, Iran, Russia, or whomever, are pathetic, and are also sanctions against Americans who want to do buisness in those countries.

The usual claim is that the "leaders" weren't actually good socialists and therefore didn't correctly create a good (or real) socialist system...

But next time, a good "leader" will arise and do it right. Cheesy
