I think you are mixing time periods...

No matter, people came to the U.S. because they knew if they worked hard and created something of value, they would be able to profit from their work, and they have done that since the beginning, hence all the creativity that blossomed in our free society and created previously unimaginable amounts of good things.

This is why Russian scientists and inventors such as David Sarnoff, Vladimir Zworykin, and Igor Sikorsky fled the Soviet Union and went to the USA. Here in the nation of human rights, freedom of speech, and capitalism, these geniuses did their best work and helped make the USA a leader in electronics and aerospace technology. There is a term for the phenomenon of scientists and inventors who fled Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union and went to the USA: Brain Drain.
It was very hard to get out of the Soviet Union after WWII, and for many years thereafter. Cry

Igor Sikorsky escaped the Soviets prior to WWII.

It was easier to escape in the early days of the Soviets, but they were always serious about preventing brains from escaping the yoke of the state.

Of course, the Soviet Union needed those geniuses and did not want them to fall into the hands of the enemy, the USA.

Too bad they wasted their "geniuses". The Soviet Union is probably high on the all time list of the least innovative countries in the world... The reason being a lack of property rights for individuals.

The U.S. was "the enemy" only because they weren't willing to roll over and play dead while the Soviets conquered the world around them and then started a war with Communist China.

How would property rights have anything to do with ability to innovate. In fact the record shows that in the field of space science the Soviets were one of the top two. And then after the fall of the S.U., it can be argued that Russian space science led the world. There's that space station up there that Americans hitchhike to.

Written history tells us clearly now which country was the aggressor and still is. Nearly 40 US wars of aggression since WW2 alone.

This is a fact that will always require a lot of US propaganda counterspin in order to keep Americans as believers.

Libertarians aren't believers, or more correctly, weren't believers until they had to defend their country's record to me on this forum. Antiwar.com usually gets it right though on US aggression!

Is this your first exposure to civics?

No, I see that you are just confused, again.

It's not ability that is at issue, it is the right to profit from your ability, even if your only ability is to keep working at it.

When, as in the Soviet Union, that right is denied, made illegal, people don't bother to work on perfecting their good ideas so as to make them practical and valuable.

Famines can result.

Your suggested solution is that the U.S. disarm itself?

Geez!

If Cuba had kept getting money from the Soviets, they could have kept doing the "War of Liberation" thing until the whole of the Americas became Soviet client states, vassals. Yippee.
