If Police Come to Arrest me for a Crime I know I Never Committed . . .

Am I morally justified in resisting their use of force?

Keep in mind that in government prisons, understaffed and frightened guards typically let the inmates manage each other through violence, so arresting me would definitely be using force to cause me bodily harm and even death if I resisted the convicts' violence.

What is the moral response?

If you resist with force, they are likely to shoot you, and they will be morally justified in doing so.

Answer my question, then explain all you like.

What if the police officers also knew I was innocent?  Would they still be morally justified in killing me?

Police officers acting under color of law are themselves breaking the law, but they would still shoot you if you resisted them with force, although you would have been morally justified in resisting them...

How would you know that the police knew you were innocent? Not that it will matter to you when you are dead.

Really?  Are they breaking the law?

If a police officer is as convinced that Bill Cosby is innocent as you are that Brett Kavanaugh is innocent, would he be breaking the law if he took Cosby to jail?

I don't think so.

Thank you for answering.  I would have expected you to say that I am morally obligated to go to prison as an innocent man, if my only alternative is to kill the arresting officer.

I don't have to know that in my hypothetical about the moral duty of the police officer.  If the officer knows I'm innocent and knows I'm willing to kill or be killed to avoid prison for a crime I never committed, is killing me the moral thing, or should he refuse to attempt to arrest me, knowing that I will likely die resisting?

If police come to arrest you, it's because some court has issued a warrant for your arrest.

Maybe it's the court that knows you're innocent?

In that case, the police still have to arrest you.

Anyway, I'm not convinced that Kavanaugh is innocent, I'm just not at all convinced that he is guilty.

So,  there’s nothing immoral about a police officer knowingly killing an innocent man as long as there is an arrest warrant?

Gotcha.

If the officer knows you are innocent, he has a duty to present evidence to the magistrate/judge that has issued the warrant for your arrest.

I would say, if he/she is sent to arrest you anyway, the best thing to do would be to say "I have a warrant for your arrest, but I know you are innocent, would you please come to the police station with me so we can clear this up."

If the police know you are willing to die to avoid arrest, that means they know you will try to kill them, so they will probably send a SWAT team to break down your doors and shoot you.

There is nothing morally wrong with anyone shooting someone who is trying to shoot them.

If you use deadly force to resist the serving of a warrant, the police will be justified in killing you.

Why would an innocent person use deadly force to resist an arrest warrant? You must be a complete idiot.
