What's More Fun to a Politician/Judge?

Deciding cases based on the plain language of the written law or making changes to the law through rulings that completely ignore the written law?

Obviously, the second would be the funnest.  If I were Chief Justice of the USSC, the first rule would be that I decide which Associate Justices will write the ruling and the dissenting opinion.  I wouldn't tell them which opinion would be the ruling, so they would each try as hard as they can to convince me.

Then I would select the most libertarian ruling for each case and tell the "winner" to publish it.

When you wonder why government officials do things that make no sense, don't forget the "fun factor."  Controlling people is fun.

You should find out how the court makes it's rules, or even if it does.

Why you think you would (or should) be granted dictatorial powers over the other Justices is beyond my imagining.

It's just the judgement of a layman, but I think there is some serious defect in your brain and your personality.

You sound here like a good slave Driver, or the Plantation owner.

Ooh, so you are comparing me favorably with George Washington and Thomas Jefferson . . .

Don't flatter yourself.

Neither of those men thought controlling people was fun.

They liked it enough to own numerous slaves.  TJ seemed to like controlling his own little “sex robot,” pretty well.

You telling me he didnt’ have fun doing that?

Or was she only three fifths of a person so she didn’t count?

Your claim is that they thought it was fun to control people. That's nonsense. It's just you, once again trying to make the creators of America into tyrannical ogres who owned slaves because it was fun to have slaves!

That might be one of your fantasies, but it wasn't theirs.

My theory has always been that she seduced him and that it was a cooperative and mutually beneficial relationship. (Remember, it wasn't 21st Century America...).

I can imagine Sally thinking, "Toms coming around nicely, and I do love him so..."

No telling what Mrs. TJ thought. I'm thinking she said "Tom, I still love you, but you should take your physical passion to the slave quarters and stay out of my bed".

Tom just might have wanted more sons in hopes that one might live. It was a patriarchal society he lived in, not that a man would not want to have sons in a matriarchal society.

Are you giving this some thought before you reply? I've heard you think that's a good idea...
