Brits Finally Ban The Term 'Fake News'

Government banning free speech is risky.

Especially when the speech banned describes something that obviously exists.

"In a corrupt society, the truth can be found in what is forbidden to say."

Hopefully, the leftists in US will follow suit.

Who could ask for anything more?   Smiley

The day you can put someone in jail for lying is the loss of freedom.

The day you can put someone in jail for telling the truth is the loss of everything.

Good thing it's only in official parliament documents, though who can say for how long.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

If you lie in order to defraud me and steal my money, you can be jailed for theft.

If you lie under oath in a courtroom you can be jailed.

If you lie about what you plan to do if elected, it might help you get elected.

If you lie about your record or your past in order to get elected, it might help you get elected.

Clearly, lying in some situations has different results than lying in other situations.

Lying in order to steal is aggression. Lying in order to falsely convict some is aggression. Lying in order to get elected is OK... I think Cloward & Pivens actually recommend lying to get elected...

Edit: If you lie to the American people after you are elected, it might help you get re-elected...

Only the first one is aggression. Besides, I didn't say put someone in jail for fraud, I said put someone in jail for lying.

All of those are instances of using a lie as an instrument to commit other (supposed) wrongs.

It's like if SkyChief shot someone and you said, "You can't put someone in jail for having a gun!" No one is putting him in jail for having a gun; it's the murder that counts.

My point was about control on speech. If people are to be free people should be allowed to be wrong. Somehow it went right past the question of whether people should be allowed to lie and went straight to preventing them from telling the truth.

Fraud is lying in order to take someones property.

Definition of fraud

1a : deceit, trickery specifically : intentional perversion of truth in order to induce another to part with something of value or to surrender a legal right
//was accused of credit card fraud

b : an act of deceiving or misrepresenting : trick //automobile insurance frauds

Aren't these the same people who are saying they won't allow the people of Great Britain to leave the EU?

Don't they claim to be some sort of democrats?
