You obviously disagree with my thinking on where we get the right to form governments...

I don't know where you think that right comes from, I only know that you finally agreed that it exists...

Where do you think the right of people to form governments comes from?

As I explained several times, from rights that we already possess.

Since there is no existing right to take the property of another for some ”good purpose,” there can be no right to grant that power to government.

So?

Where does the right to grant the power to tax to government come from?

The right of people to form governments is derived from "other" natural rights? Which ones?

It's not important for me to know, I'm just curious...

People have the right to form governments. If people don't have the right to grant the government they form the power of taxation, there isn't any sense forming a government in the first place.

It's more a practical matter than a philosophical one.

Sort of like having the right to own property is often meaningless without a government to protect your right.

Sure, you can use force to try to protect your property by yourself, but little guys lose out to warlords and their gangs in those sorts of contests, and the little guys often become serfs or dead.

North Korea is a good current example. North Koreans have all the same rights that anybody else does, but they are powerless to enforce those rights for themselves, so their rights are abrogated and denied.

If you want to create a government that will protect everybody's property rights impartially and equally, granting your government limited powers of taxation is necessary to enable the government to fulfill its mission.

No other way to accomplish what you want to accomplish is yet known.
