The Founders Knew What they Were Doing

From Federal Farmer No. 1 - 1787:

"The plan of government now proposed is evidently calculated totally to change, in time, our condition as a people.  Instead of being thirteen republics, under a federal head, it is clearly designed to make us one consolidated government . . . "

The founders fully intended the U.S. Constitution as a power grab.  They carefully positioned themselves to be the first generation of officials in in Uncle Sam's new ruling class.  They would not at all be surprised at how bloated and intrusive the federal government became.  No doubt they expected it to happen much sooner, perhaps during their own tenures.

Yes, that was an anti-federalist position that was answered with a yes in the new Constitution.

The U.S. does have a consolidated system of government, where local and state and federal governments balance each other and try to work together to preserve the Blessings of Liberty.

It's a brilliant plan! Smiley

There's probably some truth to this.  The state-bank alliance (to extract wealth from the public by deception) operated at the federal level from 1781, even before the First Bank of the US (first official central bank) was founded.

My guess is that it was that Alexander Hamilton again!

After the central bank was smashed by Andrew Jackson, for seven decades the alliance operated only at the state level.  (E.g. Virginia had sounder money and finance than, say, Alabama, even though they both used the dollar, as accounting unit.)

The founding of the Fed and reversion to centralized state-bank alliance was necessary if the US were to take on the guardianship of the modern imperial money bubble.

I hate that the plan has been perverted. That's what I complain about Sacky.

How was it done?

What made the Dollar more sound in Virginia than in Alabama?

The plan has not been perverted. It was a leaky bucket the whole time.

Eventually, nice people like the first few generations of politicians stopped holding their hands over the holes.

The water leaked out. It was a natural result of the bucket having holes in it.

What people don't understand is that if the populace is the kind of people who will hold their hands over the holes, you don't need government at all. You get that amazing phenomenon where the townsfolk hire a sheriff to keep the bad apples away.

If the system is really bad, though - if it advantages the bad apples over the good - then you get a critical mass of thieves and parasites who increase at the expense of the productive.

With no government, and a good starting population, you get a system that's tribal, but sustainably produces less parasites and thieves.

The only way a good starting population can degrade into a bad population is policy. The policy must have been bad, and it must have been bad to start with, otherwise you couldn't get the bad result.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.
