Luckily, when people in the U.S. want to change the form of government that's been consented to,

Eeeee!

That passive voice is like nails on a chalkboard to someone trying to have a logical debate.  Who, exactly, has consented to it?

Quote:
or alter the terms of the granted powers or assigned responsibilities, they can.

It's not easy to do, by intent.

You would't want something like a panel of nine people to arbitrarily alter the government charter on their own. That would be tyrannical.

Nor would I want representatives elected by a tiny minority of the adult population to determine the form of government and act as if “the people” then gave their consent.

I sure wouldn’t want the office holders of that government hundreds of years later to claim that people of their generation have consented to it.

Quote:
Even allowing a parliament to alter the rules that govern the parliament is tyrannical. That's the basic problem I see with parliamentary government.

So, by definition, the people cannot consent to a government with a parliamentary form?

Most everybody I know of. Smiley Smiley Smiley

Why don't you make a list of people who refuse to consent. Thanks, Kiss

Do I get a vote?

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

Sure.

If you expect  that your vote will force someone to blow you, you are mistaken. Cheesy

Sorry. I'm not on my period right now, so I don't care.

If I get a vote, I would not consent to the current government or anything that could lead, without violation of its principles, to the current government.

I vote for a constitution that can't be changed.

If it's worth it to you to rebel, do that.

You do probably get a vote.

Who cares?

Really?  That's awesome news!

So what was the process by which they consented?  How did they express their consent and what was the alternative choice?  Please be specific since you are so sure.

No one I know has ever been afforded the opportunity to consent or not consent.  Soon as you tell me how that was done for most everybody you know, I'll get them to take advantage of the same process.

Thanks!

What will be in it to start off?

The idea that you can create a perfect constitution that will never need any alteration sounds farfetched. It's not a good idea.

Your welcome.

Since you don't believe it's possible to create a legitimate government because of your insistence that to be legitimate, any government must have the explicit consent of everyone living within that government's jurisdiction, it's a waste of time to try to  help you understand the idea of consent behind our form of government. So I won't.

You not only insist on democracy, you insist on having 100% agreement. Cheesy
