There may be one economy, but there are two Americas (or, more precisely, two worlds in a globalized economy.)

There are people who work in the new knowledge economy, trying out all kinds of experiments that hope to revolutionize productivity.  Then there are those in the traditional businesses who produce the commodities that have always supported life.  (These include developing countries churning out cheap 'stuff' to fill our shops.)

And in a company like Uber, you have both worlds side by side!  (With each group treated accordingly, nicely or not so much.)

The MO of the elites of the last few decades was to keep goods and services pricing down by fostering deflation and competition in the second world, but getting a lot of speculative money poured into the first world.  The cheapness of commodities maintains faith in the money they issue, while, if and when big successes come from the first world, the growth helps rescue them from the chronic condition of financial socialism -- many more claims to wealth have been issued than there is actual wealth, at current prices.

'At current prices' is the key phrase.  Such a world is inherently unequal and unstable (based on the elites picking winners and losers rather than free market dynamics.)  At a certain point, when not enough successes come out of the first world, the elites have to contemplate inflation in the second world to stabilize their system and keep their power.  This is only a last resort, but it looks like we're getting there now.
I'm not sure what you said... Does this have a connection to it?

Sorry, never mind, the bad word nanny changed the link so it won't work. "Clustercrappity smack" is a prohibited term here, although it's a very useful descriptive...

President Trump Announces Gov't Control Of Gasoline Production

Moments ago, Trump announced that the Ethanol content of fuel will be going UP to 15%.

This is to create an artificial demand for corn which is used to make ethanol fuel additive.  It will make corn farmers rich.

"We're ensuring that Ethanol remains a vital part of America's energy future, and we've increased it to E15.

And that's tremendous for, in particular, for the most part - our corn farmers - for corn.

And now the people of Iowa and other places are VERY happy!"
   [audience  laughter ]

Socialism inched its way closer as governme'nt takes control of gasoline production (formula).

Ethanol makes your car run worse, lowers fuel economy and performance, and dissolves rubber components in your car's fuel system.

But Trump isn't concerned about your car - he's concerned about putting YOUR cash into the pockets of corn farmers.

Get used to socialism, folks.   Socialism is coming.

I might have done a poor job of explaining how the control of money by the Western elites has been working its usual magic over the last couple of decades to create winners and losers, if not by government fiat, then let's say by elite fiat.

Yep.  Ethanol is like other farm subsidies, they are just farm welfare.

Ethanol doesn't even reduce carbon emissions when you factor in growing it with using it, it's pathetic.

And it makes engines run hotter, which burns them out faster.

It's a total con on the taxpayer

Is that why alcohol fueled dragsters are so fast but don't last very long? Cool

I forgive you, being an engineer and all, that you don't know that alcohol burns cooler and also inhibits detonation...

300,000 mile engines are getting commonplace...

It does save exhaust systems though..., and if your car lasts for 300,000 miles with the factory installed exhaust system, you won!

In days of yore when most all gas was leaded, exhaust systems in some areas would rot out every three or four years, which added up to real money eventually...

Edit: And was a real PITA as I'm sure you might imagine.

Here is a simple method of removing ethanol from gasoline.

Using this method, I removed the ethanol from 4.5 gallons of gasoline and put in my Harley.

The bike ran much better - it was a noticeable difference.

The only drawback (that I know of) with removing the ethanol from gasoline is it lowers the octane somewhat.  So when removing ethanol, its best to start with the highest octane available.

Congress passed a law to that effect?
