Why the left is finally coming out about being socialist

All these years, the left always staked out a claim that they just wanted a little more leftism.  They weren't actually socialist.  Just a little more and they'd be happy.

Of course they never were happy even though they kept winning.  They finally ran out of left to move without being socialist.

Then you had the kids come in who don't know history and don't have the stigma for socialism.  They looked at it and said wow, we're socialists.  OK.

Now we have the old socialists who never knew what they were being confronted with their kids telling them.  Mom, Dad, you're socialists.

While it bothers them, it won't phase them.  It's hilarious how Pelosi is no different than the young socialists, but she still can't see what she is.  None of them can

It was pointed out in another thread that most people don't even know the meaning of the word socialist.

On this forum, most understand the meaning of the word - a socialist is one who believes that a centralized gov't must control and regulate the production & distribution of goods & services.

Outside this forum, the understanding of the term varies quite a bit.

Gen X'ers mostly think that socialist means government should impose high taxes and re-distribute wealth from the wealthy to the needy.

Millennials believe that socialist means that gov't is responsible for providing college and health care to everyone, regardless of individual productivity.    They believe that college and health care are a "right, and gov't should take care of them, cradle to grave.   (this is "Bernie socialism")

A Gallup poll showed that 59% of Democrats and 51% of young people have a positive view of socialism.

It was also discovered that most polled really didn't know what socialism even IS.   Grin    Grin

And another poll showed that about half of Americans choose capitalism over socialism, while only 19% choose socialism over capitalism.

You're talking about after Herbert Hoover? Wilson and FDR and their cronies?

The concept is pretty simple.  Socialism is central economic planning.  There are a lot of ways to do that, but if an economy is centrally planned it's socialist.

The opposite is capitalism, which is distributed economic planning.  I.E., we make our own decisions.  The rest are just the variations and the details
