Supreme Court Rules That Apple Can Be Sued For High Prices

It boggles the mind.

Today, SCOTUS ruled that iPhone users may sue Apple because of high prices for iPhone apps.

Let that sink in a moment. . . .

I have a better (Free Market) solution:

If iPhone users think that Apple products are too expensive, they should not buy them!     Smiley

And it was Kavanaugh who was the swing vote and wrote the majority opinion.  Someone on the leftie side of the court must have bought him a six pack.

But he might not be wrong.  If anti-trust laws are at all constitutional, I don’t know why this particular interpretation would be wrong.

Snarky no more!

Right. Dont like paying Apple for apps, switch to Android, most of them are free or you can find a free version or knockoff.  Plus the added benefit of not looking like a pretentious douchebag.

From the article:

"The ruling does not decide who's right. Instead it says antitrust laws allow customers to proceed with their lawsuit."

I guess you didn't know the S. Ct. has to follow the laws...

Sooner or later, SCOTUS might get brave and re-examine the constitutional basis (or lack of one) for the anti-trust laws in question. They are another nasty leftover from the New Deal court.

My Free Market solution is much better:

If you think iPhone apps are too expensive, use a different phone platform.

Allowing iPhone users to sue Apple because they think the price is too high will tie up Court dockets with meritless lawsuits, and waste taxpayer's dollars. And it will encourage cronyism too.

Of course, but we are stuck with these Progressive Era monopoly laws.

Apple only holds 17.9% of all smartphone market share.   Clearly, Apple/iPhone is NOT a monopoly.

iPhone apps are proprietary to Apple.  They should be able to charge whatever the market will bear for their apps, without fear of frivilous lawsuits.

That's why I can't figure out why SCOTUS completely botched this ruling.

Because they didn't.

They ruled that the current law requires that this lawsuit be allowed to proceed, because that's what current law says. Duh.

Lobby Congress if you son't like the current law, or hope that SCOTUS finally declares it to be illegal.

Anti-trust laws apply to monopolies.   Apple is not a monopoly.   Anti-trust law is NOT applicable here.  Duh.

Apple should be immune to any and all anti-trust lawsuits.

SCOTUS needs to get their (collective) heads out of their (collective) asses.     Smiley
