Mean whatever you like. You give them the power and they'll do it their way, not yours.

You just said they should have the power to take money.

Conditional power doesn't exist. "You have this power, but only if you-"

Yeah, the people you gave power to just stopped listening right there, because you gave them the power.

Opposition:  OMG, there's not a perfect solution.  God swore to me before I was born that there was always a perfect solution in life, all I had to do was find it, follow it, then I don't need to think anymore

No, he didn't

Opposition:  Well, I'm still not going to think.  If we can't have a perfect government, then let's all sit down and wait to be killed or conquered into slavery. One thing I'm not doing is thinking, particularly about anything gray

Fine, whatever, you win again. Public school is not a transfer of wealth.

It's not like I was arguing what you always say: That we should only use government power when it's necessary.

But hey, public school is necessary.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

I'm encouraged, you are able to learn, if only in halting baby steps...

Oops! I spoke too soon.

Public school is not necessary, it's just a very good idea when done correctly and most people still want it. Smiley

That's what Bernie says about socialism!!   Grin   Smiley

Governments will always devise ways to deprive an honest man of his money or property, and claim that it's legal.

My oldest daughter lived in eight States growing up.  I'd like to know about these government schools that don't suck, where are they?

The best public schools are mediocre private ones, and the government ones are a whole hell of a lot more expensive

Everything the government does, it comes at a great cost to taxpayers.

That's why it's so important to make government abstain from all non-essential functions.

Non-essential functions include EVERYTHING except for the following 4 things;

maintaining a Military for defense,

maintaining a legislative body (Congress),

protecting individual rights and liberties enumerated in the US Constitution,

maintaining the Courts.

All other government functions should cease - especially wealth redeistribution schemes.

We can then eliminate Income Taxes, and rely on tariffs to fund the Military and Congress payroll.

Many will squawk that tariffs alone would be insufficient to support the most massive military force on the planet.

I will point to Switzerland.  They have a tiny Military.   The last time the Swiss fought in a war was 1847.   Wow.    Wouldn't it be nice to make that claim?
