I was discussing the ROLE of US troops in Syria.

Until now, it has been an advisory role - not a combat role.

If Trump deploys battle tanks and other mechanized assets, the role CHANGES to a combat role.

It hasn't happened.  Yet.  I predict that Trump WILL send in tanks.

Here's what I said:

I agree with all that, but he's the least militaristic President since Carter.  And Carter was a wuss who emboldened our enemies

We haven't gone anywhere.

But I'll accept your challenge.  I say he won't.  Democrats constantly declare him a war hawk for what he ... says ...

He constantly talks, but he rarely does it.  It seems to work, the other side takes him seriously.

He genuinely doesn't seem to want wars.

So head to head, one of us is going to go up 1-0

Agreed.   Smiley

Governments will always devise ways to deprive an honest man of his money or property, and claim that it's legal.

Except trade wars, which historically lead to shooting wars, and do great damage to working people by damaging the economy as a whole, something Trump doesn't seem to understand. Cry

What?

You trust Trump to keep us out of wars, I think he won't, and offer his trade wars as justification for my belief.

Sending tanks to Northern Syria is a "peacekeeping" move, right?

An excellent forum discussion, on topic:

https://www.cato.org/events/fuel-to-the-fire?utm_campaign=Upcoming%20at%20Cato&u...

From the intro:

"In Fuel to the Fire: How Trump Made America’s Broken Foreign Policy Even Worse (and How We Can Recover), John Glaser, Christopher Preble, and Trevor Thrall argue that, instead of breaking from his party and the bipartisan consensus that has guided foreign policy for decades, Trump’s administration shows remarkable continuity with the more misguided policies of the last three decades. Simultaneously, the administration has undermined and stifled our two most valuable foreign policy tools: trade and diplomacy."
