The Trade War

What are your thoughts?

It seems to be affecting the Chinese very little, as their economy is slowing down for other reasons and they aren't backing down. Apparently being formally labelled as currency manipulators isn't going to work out very well either.

But something has to be done about China:
They are waging economic warfare on everyone they do business with ... If a trade war is not the answer, what better options does the US or the rest of the world have?

Well, what are your thoughts Jacob?

Some people here will say that all tariffs and regulations should be lifted and the free market be allowed to correct things even if it means the death of America.

I personally say bring back manufacturing to America.  More Trade schools would be good too.  We need our own low and medium-skilled labor force.

The Chinese aren't breaking international laws, or else there would be sanctions right now.

In a free market sense, there should be an international boycott, but the world is moving in the opposite direction, considering Italy at the very least.

So you think the whole world should agree to boycott China?  Wouldn't that be a kind of monopoly?

How would that be a monopoly?
Especially since a boycott would be cancelled once China could demonstrate a change in economic behavior. I don't see how this isn't tied to consumer demand influencing the market.

If the whole world conspired to turn into one massive entity that boycotts China then sure it would be like a monopoly.  How about if the gas or electric company in your area denied service to you?  Who else could you go to?

A worldwide boycott is as anti-free-market as you can get.

This is how the free market works. Everyone is in competition with all other parties at all times.

China, a socialist nation, is simply beating capitalist nations at capitalism. They can do this because they are unified, whereas capitalist nations have competition and strife at every level.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

Fair enough, I'll leave it at that.

Jacob,
You have good intentions but it is way too early for you to write the Libertarian Manifesto.  Perhaps you should spend a decade as a Neocon first and reintroduce yourself to Libertarianism when you are older.

Can't be conservative, I support gay marriage and the separation of church from state.

Besides, no time like the present to get course corrections while I can. If I have neocon tendencies, this is the place to shake them out.

Its definitely too early to publish a manifesto without the basics of economics down.
