The Immediate Solution to the Humanitarian Disaster on our Border

It's simple:  Release the captives.

Simple human decency requires that if you can't hold people in humane conditions, you don't hold them.  We cannot legally send them anywhere, so the alternative is to let them go or hold them.  Since we don't have room to hold them in decent conditions, the only thing left is release.

For the unaccompanied children, I'm at a loss to understand why this looks like a tough puzzle to the government.  State CPS-type agencies take American children from their families because a child shows a teacher a hand mark on their backside or because a nosy neighbor reports that a woman working two jobs is a poor housekeeper.  But we are supposed to "re-unite" these children with the families that sold them to coyotes?

If the child came across with a bona fide adult relative, release the child with that relative.  DNA tests are simple and cheap.  For 39.99, I can find out if my ancestors were Scottish royalty, I don't see why we can't find out if the woman the child clings to is really Tia Dora or not.  If not, turn the kids over to foster care and start finding permanent families for them.

Why do they have to be released "to" anyone?

Are they insisting that they be released to someone or they'll go back or stay in detention?

I believe they have it good in there.  Probably better than at home.

I do think since you want them released so much and no one seems to be standing up to the plate that you foster at least one of those twerps.

That's a good argument if there is a severe shortage of people wanting to foster and adopt children.  Since there is actually a shortage of children needing adoption, your argument holds no water.

We should treat those kids the same as we would treat an American child who walks into a government facility unaccompanied.  We would turn them over to health and human services who would attempt to locate parents and while doing that, find a foster home for them.

This desire to punish children for the actions of parents is a little twisted.

It is not about punishment LBM.  We don't reward illegal actions.  The kids are innocent so they can be innocent anywhere but not here, please.

We have enough problems.

If no one were to step up to the plate, how many of those twerps are you willing to foster?  You should at least drive down there and say hi to them.

So we should pay for them to go back to Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua?

I'll pay to send them to Texas and straight to your house.  Who knows, maybe they can turn on your smart TV and all lights by firing away in Spanish.

Even a better solution:     Offer them Guest Visas

A Guest Visa doesn't grant citizenship, but at least these people can be released immediately, and are granted free movement in the US for a period of ONE YEAR! . .

Wow!!  So easy!

I'll sign off on that.  When we release them, there must be some kind of documentation.  Otherwise, they may find job, say in a Mississippi meat plant, only to be re-apprehended over and over again.
