Good point, but it's more a matter of trust than safety.

Americans are probably actually safer than they've ever been (unless they live in a "progressive" ghetto), but have been whipped up into a frenzy of fear and mistrust by our governments.

The irony is that the government is working hard to take away liberties and freedom from the people, meanwhile the people trust the government unconditionally - they think the government "cares" about them!   Grin

A minority of people think the government is concerned about them, but only a few totally ignorant morons trust the government unconditionally... Maybe some very young children too.

They may just care about me as a milk cow (and perhaps a beef cow if times get tough for them) but that's more than any human being cares about me. The government gains because I exist. They would never tell me to commit suicide.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

Yes, the government cares about you to the extent that they can legally steal your money.

Their concern for your well-being ends there.

You're content with that, it sounds like.   Good for you.    Smiley

It's silly to think of the government having feelings and caring.

The laws are written and (hopefully) enforced to protect your life and property as well as everyone else's.

The law cares about you  exactly as much as it cares about me. And everybody else. Kiss Kiss Kiss

If there's anything better than that, I haven't seen it.

But no, I'm not content with that. I know that in order to provide this small level of care that I'm immensely grateful for, they're stealing from you (and everyone else) and that's not right.

If it was just me, I'd give them my last dime and starve happy.

But it's not just me.

Those who want (and in fact, already have) more rights should have them respected. I will fight for that.

Rights must be asserted.

If someone doesn't assert their rights, then others rationalize that they don't really want (or value) them, so they feel no shame or guilt in violating them.

No Chief, the laws are impartial, most of them anyway. Most of the inequities are caused by unequal application of the law, and people do that... Often we know exactly who they are too! Smiley
