False Advertising

Should false advertising be illegal? If there's a line, where do you draw it?

What about blatantly false products? The thing that comes to mind for me is that ridiculous "makes your willie bigger" spam.

Even if you don't need any help, you have to know that's false. If it wasn't, no one would need any help.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

What about "false advertising" by the government? Should it be illegal?

False Advertising should NOT be Illegal.

It violates Free Market principles.

If a company chooses to engage in misleading or blatantly false advertising, LET THEM.

They will be exposed for this behavior and they will lose business.

Exception to free false advertising should be drugs and food for human consumption.

If drug manufacturer or food maker deliberately or knowingly mislabels or makes a false claim about their product(s), then they should face civil lawsuits by those who were harmed or damaged.

If "damages" result in permanent disability or death, then Criminal charges should apply.

Governments will always devise ways to deprive an honest man of his money or property, and claim that it's legal.

False advertising is a form of fraud. All fraud should be illegal, and I think it already is. Smiley

Let the buyer beware is fine, but don't try to mislead the buyer.

Libertarians oppose fraud, so they must oppose false advertising because false advertising is fraud.

"It was never for human consumption, that was just a lie I put on the box because I'm allowed to."

Now this is a lie about a product that is not for human consumption.

"For human consumption" actually meant that it causes tuberculosis in Humans.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I don't think you understand... I want you to fight me on this. I want you to tell me what's right. I want you to explain it to me because I do not understand.

I'm not trying to poke holes. I'm trying to induce you to explain better.

I want nothing more than to be a libertarian minarchist with beliefs identical to your beliefs. Or anyone's actually. As long as they're respected as a libertarian.

You're pretending not to understand.  But ok, I'll play along.

"It was never for human consumption, that was just a lie I put on the box because I'm allowed to."

Bad news for you. You are criminally liable for any sickness or death that your mislabeled product caused.

Now this is a lie about a product that is not for human consumption.

"For human consumption" actually meant that it causes tuberculosis in Humans.

Very clever.   Wink   But more bad news:

You failed to disclose that your product contained Mycobacterium bacteria - a deadly pathogen.

Again, you are criminally liable for any/all sickness or death caused by people ingesting your MTB bacteria.

The jury won't take long to deliberate on your intent of malice.  You would find yourself in a small boat, adrift at sea, banished forever.   Bon Voyage.

Being a libertarian, I don't give it much thought, really.. . to me, libertarian principles are just common sense.   I don't know why so many people seem to struggle with libertarian ideals.   On other forums, libertarians are loathed and mocked.
