As I hope you can tell by my explanation above, I favor strict limits on taxation.

It's a very bad idea to attempt to set some number or percentage limit on taxes. Things change, and sometimes (as perhaps in wartime) it might be necessary for Congress to raise more revenue...

Or for congress to quarter soldiers in people's houses in a manner prescribed by law.  In wartime.

So fill in the blank:

XX Amendment to the Constitution

In peacetime, no person shall be required to pay more than _____ percent of his income, nor more than _____ percent of his accumulated wealth.  Nor shall those limits be exceeded in wartime, except in a manner prescribed by law.

Name a limit or admit that you favor unlimited taxes.  The logic of the English language does not provide any other option.

Quote:
Because of the requirement for apportionment for Direct taxes, those are unlikely to be raised, leaving working people with the fruits of their labor.

How would apportionment prevent congress from raising taxes?  That makes no sense whatsoever.

Quote:
Indirect taxes can, in emergency situations, be made higher. Rich people and big corporations won't like it, but it will be much better than having Congress take control of the economy.

Are you saying that the constitution is cancelled in emergencies?  Can you cite the clause that states that?

Snarky no more!

How many people are there who really can't afford to send $4000 to the treasury? 50 million? 75 million?

Congress must consider what those people would do.

How can you possibly think that from what I said?

I forget what it was... Do you think it was important?

Maybe he phrased it poorly?

Edit: Shouldn't BM be capitalized?

It's easy to tell the important questions.  Those are the ones you work the hardest to dodge.

Your idea is bad. How many times do you want me to tell you that?
