Governments will always devise ways to deprive an honest man of his money or property, and claim that it's legal.

You don't want Athena to disappear do you?

I'm trying to get the point you're making with this post Chief...

Is it to contrast libertarians with "progressives"?

I don't get this stupid idea that somehow disagreeing is bad.

Patton:  If everyone is agreeing, somebody isn't thinking

I think what's bad are the monolithic beliefs of the Democrat party where they just flip issues on every supposed standard and moral based on the party.  The Republicans are more than one block, but they have several blocks that mostly work the same way within the block.  At least Republicans don't all have the same position on every issue for the same reasons as Democrats do though

Of all the Greek gods, Athena is my favorite.

Athena's dad, Zeus, would be my #2 favorite.

Athena's my favourite, followed closely by Hades.

No, no, not this interpretation. He wasn't evil or very devil-like. He was the guardian of the underworld and he was pretty neutral.

Getting into Greek heaven was not something you got just for being good. You actually had to distinguish yourself and you basically had to be a hero.

Hades got everyone else.

No one said the Underword was nice, but it wasn't Hell. It wasn't a punishment. It was just what happened when you died.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

I minored in mythology as an undergraduate and Athena was always my favorite as well

Libertarians agree, "entitlements" will destroy America:

https://fee.org/articles/entitlement-liabilities-are-a-graver-threat-to-the-next...

An excerpt:

The Future Is Bleak

"The taxes levied to fund Social Security have already risen drastically. In 1937, the Social Security tax rate was one percent on earnings up to $3,000 ($53,449 in 2019 dollars) to be matched by the employer. By 1971 it was 4.6 percent on earnings up to $7,800 ($49,411 in 2019 dollars). It now stands at 6.2 percent up to $132,900.

This is only going to get worse. According to Census Bureau projections, by 2030 each 100 working-age Americans will be supporting 35 retirees, and this could rise to 42 by 2060. Another way to think of this is to calculate the number of retirees each worker must support. In 1946, the burden of one retiree was shared between 42 workers. Today, according to the SSA, roughly three workers cover each retiree’s Social Security and Medicare benefits. By 2030, however, there will be only two workers supporting each retiree."

Will Congress address the problem?

Congress will continue to raise taxes for entitlement spending.

It is estimated that people will tolerate taxes up to 60% before revolting, so we have a ways to go.   Socialism always leaves a wake of misery and despair.

One thing the bible got right was tithing.  People will gladly pay up to 10% of their income to help others.  It's in our DNA that 10% is fair.  People don't avoid taxes when they are below 10% basically at all.  Over 10%, people work harder and harder to avoid paying them the higher they get and government never ends up with more revenue.  Eventually, it gets to the point that revenue actually drops as they become punitive
