You really can't grasp what "redistributing wealth" means, can you?

Um ... other way around, Holmes.  When money is confiscated at gun point and given to you in the form of educating your children, that is redistribution of wealth.  Government education is like all other welfare.  It's not available to everyone, just those who qualify.

And your kids get indoctrinated into leftist ideology and really don't get a meaningful education.  We pay for a Cadillac and get a Yugo

So when money is "confiscated" from me and "given" to others in the form of our county police, wealth is "redistributed" in that manner too?

That's a clear misunderstanding of wealth redistribution.

That's obviously true. Taxation for services that benefit everyone and are necessary is not redistribution.

You and Kaz just disagree on whether a basic education is necessary.

I can say that it certainly didn't benefit me. I couldn't wait for school to get out so I could go to the library and actually learn stuff.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.

I learned quite a lot in school, and our high school library was actually pretty decent.
Anyway, not every thing taught in schools is of an academic nature.

How old were you when you decided to design your own course of study? I was 22, and I have to say, I'm grateful that I had learned enough in school to make some fairly good choices when I started learning on my own, and also that I had been taught rational ways to go about it. Smiley

I believe it was 2nd Grade. Instead of walking home, I walked to the library.

No one cared until they realised they could use it to punish me, but when I realised I'd be punished no matter what I did or didn't do, I just snuck to the library whenever I could.

My Mom was taking me to the library even before I started school, and continued taking me until I was old enough to go on my own. It wasn't a substitute for school, it was a supplement.

Actually, I left school after two days because they wern't even trying to teach me to read... Or so it seemed to me... They were wasting my time on A, B,C, and 1, 2, 3, which I assumed every first grader already knew!

Of course I was forced to go back to school anyway, where they eventually got around to teaching us all to read. Smiley

I lost track of where the conversation about taxation and representation is... Anyway Chief, English citizens elected their Representatives to parliament, they weren't appointed by the King in the House of Commons.

It could be earlier if you were pregnant by your cousin or your Daddy.
