BTW, Don's sock.  The thing the book addresses specifically for your Communist government should own all property proposal is that by not allowing private property, that removes the biggest asset that most people have.  You should seriously read the book and the devastating consequences of that

I am perfectly happy to pay for the protection government provides, through a yearly deed registration fee.  You could call that fee a “property tax” and get no argument from me

And so now we have it.  You propose we have the same government we have now except we base taxes primarily on property ownership rather than income.  Whoopie!  I'm free now!  Same government!   Same taxes!  Just a different tax measurement system!

Oh, and don't think you avoid taxes by renting, of course the land owner pass them through to you.

Well, the land renter since in your Marxist euphoria you turned over all land to government.  Freedom rings, freedom rings!

If she owned them, she could lease the rights in various ways... I wonder who advised her?

Of course sometimes a big chunk of guaranteed money up front is the best thing you can do. From time to time, the people guaranteeing that money don't get it back, then you win!

If she sold her songs, and wants to buy them back, I see no problem.

I've read if they don't put a million dollars just into advertising new bands, they aren't really trying and should just go home.  There are way more failures than successes.

She didn't have a million dollars, so I don't get the relevance of your question who advises her.   No one was going to pony up the million for her without getting paid back for their investments in all the bands they fund

Not always. Sometimes retaining ownership will pay off in spades. Smiley

The point is, people must be free to choose. For themselves. Not for others who are not their children.

Thanks for reading what I've been writing and parroting it back to me.  Very enlightening ...

That's correct. And it makes sense for them to put the big money only into songs they own.

No one is so good they can demand to keep the rights to their songs anymore. The label can find someone else.

So even though there's no wrong in it this time, because no property rights are being violated, the little guy who actually creates is back to making less. And he can't even sing his own song, because he no longer owns it.

Intellectual Property sprang up under the pretence of protecting the little guy. It's not doing that, so I foresee anti-libertarian legislation on the horizon. IP happened to be libertarian and was able to use that pretence. The next law will probably not be.

There are reasonable compromises so property rights are not destroyed, but it depends on if you're into compromising or not.

This moral relativism of yours is exactly what lets government take this freedom, then that freedom, until we have lost them all.
